All proceeds go toward statue and festival in August 2020 to honor Susan B Anthony’s 200th birthday and the 100th year of women being able to vote.
We are more than halfway to reaching our goal for a fabulous festival in downtown Adams and a statue on the Town Common to honor Adams native Susan B. Anthony! We can’t thank our local residents, businesses, and organizations enough for their generosity.
The ASCCC had a great meeting last night with Brian Hanlon, the sculptor of our statues, where he provided us with photos of his clay model of the 6-year-old Susan and we reviewed his model of the adult Susan. Very exciting stuff!
Now, the committee can shift some focus to our festival in August of 2020. We are planning a 1-2 day event that will include a parade, performances such as plays and live bands, vendors, food, and children’s activities. An event of this scale should bring visitors to the town and provide our residents with memories that will last. Please donate to the festival fund by clicking on the ‘Donate’ button on this page, or click on the image above to visit our new GoFundMe campaign, begun today. Any amount will help! Donate often!

All proceeds benefit the Susan B. Anthony Statue and Celebration Fund
The Adams Suffrage Centennial Celebration Committee (ASCCC) was appointed by the Town of Adams to create a statue and celebration that honors the accomplishments of Adams native, Susan B. Anthony. It is made up of volunteers from several town organizations. The year 2020 marks the 200th birthday of our Susan, and the 100th anniversary of the nineteenth amendment to the US Constitution, giving women the right to vote.
The ASCCC set a fundraising goal of $300,000 to fulfill two objectives:
- Create a statue in the Town Common that will provide a place for visitors to interact with both a young (approximately 6-year-old) Susan and an adult Susan. It is hoped that this could be a prominent stop on a walking tour of historic Adams locations.
- Host a 2020 Celebration in town that will include the unveiling of the statue, a large parade, fireworks, women’s conference, educational and entertaining events. This event could put a national spotlight on the Town!
Many Sculpture Proposals Have Been Received!
In January, the ASCCC received 12 sculpture proposals for the statue(s) of Susan that will be placed at the Town Common. The Committee looks forward to announcing the sculptor that has been chosen soon after the proposal review has been completed and approved by the Board of Selectman.
To-date the committee has raised nearly $23,000, with significant donations made by the Town of Adams and the Susan B. Anthony Birthplace Museum. The Adams Community Bank has made a very generous pledge to the project. When the ASCCC raises $25,000, the bank has pledged to match that amount with another $25,000. When $100,000 has been raised, the bank has pledged an additional donation of $25,000!
This week, a mailing is going to each household in Adams to raise awareness of the Celebrate Susan B Anthony 2020 project, and to ask for individual donations from residents. Any donation, large or small, brings us closer to our fundraising goal.

The ASCCC, agent for the Town of Adams, requests creative proposals for a statue that represents both the young Susan B. Anthony, as during her time living in Adams, and the adult Susan B. Anthony, celebrated advocate of the women’s suffrage movement. Please see the details in the RFP document linked below, and address any questions to the committee through this site or by email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Deadline for submissions: January 31st, 2018
